Charcoal Self Portrait

This was the charcoal self portrait. We started off by setting up mirrors in front of us. This took about 3 days to do. First we got 12 x 18 inch manilla paper. We created a "ruler" down the center of the page 10 inches long and made tick marks for every inch. Using facial proportions, I found where the eyes, mouth, and hairline are. Also, the nose ends roughly around the lateral of the earlobe. Using these proportions, I started drawing my face based on my reflection. This does not actually look like me, as it is adult proportions.

Perspective Project

This project was based off of imaginary things. It was from the perspective unit, meaning that we had to have points of perspective for this project. I had 3 points, one on the left, right, and at the very top. The left and right points are off the page. First we drew the points of perspective. Then, we started drawing the actual building/ structure. I made the basic building, then added many other details, just like in almost all of my other projects. Notice the sun with sunglasses along with the moon :) This is an example of the imaginary element required for this project.

Shoe Drawings

In this project, we had to draw our own shoes. This was a freehand drawing. The medium is pencil and it is on manilla paper. First we took off our shoes and set them up in any position we wanted. We drew them over a three day period, touching up and drawing more and more everyday. I made the basic outline of the shoe, then added on the details afterwards. Using different lines, I created the texture fabric and leather look on the shoes. To create depth perception, the shoe in the back was drawn lighter than the one in the front.

Acrylic Landscape Painting

First, we started with a paint set of 5 colors: red, blue, yellow, black and white. We collected three pictures from magazines and put them together to create an entire painting. Each of the pictures was background, middleground, and foreground. We then mixed the paint and started on the background. Then we added the middleground on top of the dry background. Once that was dry, we added the foreground. After this was completed, details were added. The composition was arranged from front to back with a tree on the left and some rocks in the water. I organized it thinking about how things fit well in certain spots. Atmospheric perspective was used in this project. That is when you show depth and distance as the picture goes farther and farther back. I created it by dulling the mountain colors to show that they are distant. I also added a moon in the top left corner. This was the source of light for the painting. I showed this with the brim of light around the tree.

Vans Custom Culture

This was one of the projects that not all of the people did in class. It was where we had to design a shoe and submit to the company vans. First, the entire class chose a shoe template they wished to design. We then did a vote in the school to decide who had the best designed shoe. Mine was in the top 4. These 4 individuals, including me, was given the actual shoe we chose the template of. The shoe given to us was completely white, ready for us to design. I colored the shoes using sharpies and paint based on my design, which was a very tedious job. After 3 weeks of work, I finally completed it. The pictures above and below depict my completed design in many poses and positions. 

Ceramics Project

The medium for this project is clay. The size is 17 cm long and 8 cm tall. The design element stressed in this project was form. The technique used with this peice of work was slab hump molding. My peice serves as a cereal bowl. First I sketched some designs in my sketchbook. Then, using a circular paper I cut out the shape of the outside of the bowl by folding the circle 4 times until it looked like a piece of pie. Then using scissors, I cut out a design, resulting in the square castle design around the bowl. I learned more about how I can manipulate clay and how much heat is needed to fire the bowl. I also had hands on experience of actually putting the bowl in the kiln.
